CD Review : FREE - Planet Shakers 2008

Just realized that i totally forgot to review the Planet Shakers 2008 CD - FREE! Got it back in January, but totally forgot to blog about it! Whoopsy!

With PS coming in April, I suddenly remembered that i totally missed this CD.

This album has not really been a great impact for me, the songs are the typical Planet Shakers songs, rockish, tunes are rather similiar. Was hoping for more new stuff.

Only a couple of the songs are really nice. You can buy the CD online, and its also now available in Malaysia.

FREE was recorded in Melbourne over two nights and done by Planetshakers City Church.

From the album, I like Greatly to be Praised, Salvation and Saved The Day. Interestingly the song Save The Day has a simliar intro to His Love (Hillsongs). I thought why was Planetshakers playing a Hillsong song? hehe .. then the intro changed. :)

Here are the track listing for Planet Shakers - FREE. Click on the links to listen to the audio samples below (wmv format)

Review CD : Hillsong United I Heart Revolution - With Hearts As One Part1

Oooooh i finally got my hands on the new released CD by Hillsong United. When i first heard of it, i thought it was just another one of those compilation CDs.

One glaring difference, was that the 28 recordings on the CD(s .. yeah its a Double CD), were done practically all over the world, with one even done in Kuala Lumpur.

So when i popped the first CD in this morning, I was like ...... SWEET! Nice songs. Initially from earlier reviews from other sites, there were disclaimers that the recordings were raw. But after hearing it over twice, i like! :)

The quality of the recording is good, and its all LIVE. Yeah its a practically LIVE Concert where they took snippets from all over the different cities of the world where United travelled and blest the nations. Its an Awesome project and an awesome CD. Yes yes ..... Go buy it now!!

If you're still not convinced continue to read on. I have a couple of favourites already, but i am sure the favs will increase as i listen to the CD a couple more times.

My Favs

1. Nothing But The Blood & Hosanna - Disc2

Initially i thought it was a medley of two songs. It was recorded so well, that only until i saw the CD cover, and discovered one was recorded in New Jersey and the other at Orlando. But i think it can be done as a medley. Its really really coool! Esp with Easter up close, coool song to do!! Hmmm.. i wonder if Brooke did both the songs?

2. 'Till I See You - Disc1

I just like the way they played it. The style, the easy feeling and the way the song builds up over to the end. Love it!!! Hmmm... i may just teach it next next week.. :)

3. Time Has Come - Disc1

I like the intro they did for Time Has Come, slightly different arrangement. Sounds more techno, but a great start nonetheless.

**And there are MORE. But i guess i better stop here and keep listening to the songs! :) hehe

Passion : God of the City

PASSION has a new alum with a wonderful mix of artistes and worship leaders. Its titled God of this City after Chris Tomlin's song.

After listening many times, I've fallen in love with the first song of this album. (Will talk about it more later).

The album is a recording of 14 songs and like all Passion style, very rockish and with simple but great lyrics to worship God.

The first song - LET GOD ARISE was the song that really hit a note with me. The words are great as it talks about OUR GOD ARISES and our enemies will RUN! :) AMEN!!

Its a song to proclaim victory over our lives! Its a great and fun song to teach in church. Watch the two videos below, one's a LIVE version with the full band (love that style) and the second video is an interview by newsongcafe where Chris Tomlin talks more about the song and how he took the words from Psalms 61 to write the song.

If you're a fan of passion, get the cd!

Lakewood Church Worship Team Audition

Ha ha ha!! This video is so funny. The style and concept of the video shot shows that its almost like the American Idol! :)

Reason why i find it funny is because our church's worship audition is also just around the corner. We are having our Worship Team Audition on 24 & 25 Feb. Gonna be exciting!! :)

Check out this one minute video ... you'll get a laugh from it! But you'll need to pump up the volume on your PC, cos the recording volume is very low.

United's I Heart Revolution

This is such an exciting project by Hillsong's United. If you have not heard of this yet, its called The I Heart Revolution!

Set to be released in March 2008, its gonna be a Double CD, compilation of United's World Tour in many many countries, including the one in KL!! Yups, in the CD you will be able to hear ONE WAY when it was recorded in SIB, KL. Coolness huh!!

Joel Houston talks deeply about this project and their emphasis is not that they are into a "revolution" but rather their desire to see everyone come together in worship. The CD will be a bit on the "raw" side in its recording, but that's the whole idea of this album.

Here's an excerpt i took from their story about "The I Heart Revolution"

We've recorded a double album worth of songs old and new, and I have to say,
it's all about the people and the passion of their worship toward God.. It's
very live... A little rugged in places, but that's the beauty of it - it's not
about "united" or even the songs.. It's about the heart cry of a generation
consumed with their Maker..

A Brand New Year - 2008

As we start a Brand New Year ... Year 2008. Sometimes in life we start off the year with great uncertainties which lies ahead. Some of our challenges are like Great Walls that stand up way over 20 feet high!!

And as many around us celebrate the Brand New Year ... some are caught with the idea on how can we celebrate with challenges building up!

I just wanted to share a text message that a friend sent very timely this evening.

All she said was

As we step into the New Year, let us remember this song:
. . . Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand . . .

And its true... with GOD with us and on our side .... HE holds our tomorrows and He will hold our hand thru it all! :) So don't be overly anxious and be encouraged that God will walk with us.

Its a really old song (not sure if its a Hymn), check it out as Kelly Price sings it ... in her all gospel-soulish style ... I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

Lyrics

Verse
I don't know about tomorrow
I just live from day to day
I don't borrow from it's sunshine
For it's skies may turn to gray
I don't worry o'er the future
For I know what Jesus said
And today I'll walk beside Him
For He knows what is ahead

Chorus
Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

Funny Rap Video : Baby Got Book by Dan Smith

Saw this some time back, but at that time it wasn't on YouTube yet, so was pretty glad when Yoke foward this to me on Facebook. (Facebook Addict? add me)

Check out this Video. Its a Rap! Its Hillarious! :)

Lyrics to Baby Got Book (rap along)

"Baby Got Book"
Lyrics by Dan Smith; Copyright 2004

Intro
Oh my goodness, Becky, look at her Bible
It is so big
She looks like one of those preacher guys girlfriends
But...you know...Who understands those preacher boys
They only talk to her because she looks like Mother Teresa, ok?
I mean her Bible...it's just so big
I can't believe it's so huge
Uggh! It gross!
Look, she's just so...righteous

Verse 1
I like big Bibles and I can not lie
You Christian brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with a KJV
And a book mark in Proverbs
You get stoked
Got her name engraved
So you know that girl is saved
It looks like one of those large ones
With plenty o' space in the margins
Oh baby, I wanna read witcha
Cause your Bible's got pictures
My minister tried to console me
But that Book you got makes ("M-m-me so holy")
Ooh, momma-mia
You say you want koinonia
Well, bless me, bless me
And teach me about John Wesley

I saw her prayingWhile I was DJing
She got grace...pretty face
She ain't goin' down to the bad place

I'm tired of heathen guys
Sayin' they like pocket-size
Ask the average Christian to take a look
She's gotta pack much Book

So...Fellas (Yeah), fellas (Yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the Book (Oh yeah!)
Well, read it (Read it!), read it (Read it!), read that Holy Book
Baby got Book

Chorus
(NIV with a ribbon bookmark)
Baby got Book
(NIV with a ribbon bookmark)

Verse 2
I like 'em leather and bound
It's 50 pounds
I just can't understand
How it is, some weenie
Wants the Bible on CD
She wanna get you saved
Amen! Double up! A-men!

I ain't talkin' about a paraphrase
Cuz Paul wouldn't use those anyways
like 'em real thick and red-letteredYou can't find nothin' betterSouthpaw's in love
Bibles that big are unheard of

So I'm sittin' here thinkin' "What if...
I find me a girl that shows midriff?"
You can have those bimbos
I'll keep those chick that do devos
A word to the Christian sistas
I can't resist yaI'll do God's time witcha
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna pray
Til the break of day
Baby, got it goin' on
Like the wife in Pro-verbs 31

We just might get engaged
When we finish reading this page
Cuz it's worn and it's torn
And I know this girl's reborn

So ladies (yeah), ladies (yeah)
Do you wanna save people from Hades (yeah) Then read it...'til the pages fall out
Even white preachers got to shout
Baby got Book

(Thompson Chain with big red letters)
Baby got Book

Yeah baby
When it comes to a good book
Stephen King's resume just can't compare
39 + 27 = 66 books
And if you're Catholic...there's even more

So your girlfriend quotes Bill Hybels
But does she got a big Bible?
Cuz that little things she's got won't start a revival
My Bible study don't want none,Unless you got Book, Hon

...You can read Clancy or Grisham
But please don't loose this Book

Some brothers wanna play that hard hard role
And tell you that Book's too old
So they toss it and burn it
And I pull up quick to just learn it
So your girl likes paperback? Well I ain't down with that
Cuz my girlfriend's hot her Bible's rockin'
And she's got good doctrine
To the atheist chicks who try to dis
You ain't it Miss Priss
Give me a Christian, I'm insistin'
And I'll greet her with some holy kissin'
Some pervert tried to chase But he didn't make it past first base
She's quick to resist temptation
And she loves a new translation
So ladies who were lost and found
If you want the triple-six thrown down
Dial 1-800-reads-a-lot
And teach me about those Psalms
Baby got Book

(NIV with a ribbon bookmark)
Baby got Book
(Thompson Chain with big red letters)

Bible college knowledge but she still got Book (4 Xs)

Song : Free to Worship [Lakewood Church - Free To Worship]

I've been listening to Free To Worship for the last 10 days in my car!! Its absolutely brilliant, i wish i have more time to comment on the worship blog, cos i've got so many things to say on the songs and the arrangements and the medleys that Lakewood church did!! So so so so good!!

Wanna draw your attention to their theme song .. Free To Worship written by Israel Houghton & Da'Dra Greathouse (u can see her sing the song in the video below); its a great worship song, which talks about our freedom to express our love and worship unto God, that there should not be anything that will hold us back or put fear in our hearts when approaching our Almighty God!

Song : Free To Worship
Lyrics below
Chords : Still looking

Verse1
Once far away
Now, I’m here to stay
Close to your heart
When I made mistakes
I thought You’d turn away
But, now I know
You have redeemed me by grace
The distance has been erased

Chorus
Now I’m Free
To worship You, Lord
With all of my soul
And everything within me
I’m free to worship You, here
Casting out fear
Your love draws me near
to worship You

Draw me close, Draw me close

Verse2
Once I believed
(that) I could never be
Close to Your heart
Now, I know the truth
I belong to You
Yes, I know
You have redeemed me by grace
The distance has been erased

Bridge
Jesus, I will not fear
I will not fear
Draw me close, Draw me close
Jesus, I will not fear
I will not fear
Draw me close, Draw me close

Chorus (Ending)
Now I’m free to lift up my hands
I know who I am
I know I am free to worship
I will not fear, I will not fear
Draw me close, Draw me close

African Nite Worship at Glad Tidings

Its been a blessing in Glad Tidings to welcome the mass of African Students that come from various countries of the African continent and have now started to call Glad Tidings their "home church" in Malaysia.

Recently we had a nite dedicated to the Africans, with many African students rising up in worship, playing musical instruments, the african voice choir and more!! It was an awesome awesome celebrative, non stop, unable-to-sit-down, dancing - moving, jumping for the Lord, kinda worship nite!!

I trully enjoyed myself in the presence of God and would like to share with you some moments captured that night on photos and videos. (Would like to thank The Reflector for all the pics & vids)

African Nite Worship at Glad Tidings

The African Worship Band which consist of some Africans and also

some of our local Malaysians. Yeah .. the Africans were really dressed for the nite!

Resego (pronounced ... Ray-Say-Ho), she's an anointed singer

and she was one of the Worship Leaders for the nite! Awesome!

Kopo .. our acoustic guitarist ... plays regularly on the worship band

in our worship services.

Emmanuel ... cool name huh?

He's a PK (Pastor's Kid) ... a trully annointed guy always seem to have

a "Word from the Lord" and shares and worship from his heart. Cool dude!

And this Thabang (Abang with a "T") .. and he has an awesome bass voice.

IN fact all the Africans have great voices, when they come together and worship

the voice that comes forth is trully amazing.

Resego and the Singers leading the Church into Worship

I trully love the way the Africans express themselves in Worship.

Its totally without any inhibitions and self consciousness, they just worship freely

with their mouth and dance and movements ... its trully amazing!! :)

- A Worship Culture that Malaysians still have to do some "catch up!"

And yes .. our other Worship Leader ... Le Roy who is totally Chinese

and behaves, dance, moves, sings like pure African!! :)

Video of Worship Song @ African Nite : Jo Na Na Jo

I love this song done by the Africans. Its called Jo Na Na Jo.

Sing and celebrate along in this super catchy tune.

Chorus (translation in English)

Jo Na Na Jo (Heya!)

Jo Na Na Jo

Na Na Jo

(Repeat)

Verse

Ke Letsatsi (This is a Day)

Le monate (A Great Day)

La morena (Of Our Lord and Savior)

Jeso Keresete (Jesus Christ)

Review of Michael W Smith - It's A Wonderful Christmas

Michael W Smith's new Christmas Album is a superb Christmas production. You know just like a movie soundtrack where you hear the entire ensemble from the Orchestra, that's how the entire album sounds like. With songs, music instrumentals and duet with American Idol's Mandisa .. all the 11 songs were done so so well.

I would say that the album is different from those "Christmas CD" that you would wanna play, hit Repeat, in a Christmas Party. This is a collector's item. I also do believe some of the songs could be used in soundtracks for movies with Christmas themes. Its really really well done.

And to get a fore-taste of how the entire CD will go, take a look at the "Making Of Its A Wonderful Christmas" Video below. Check out the Orchestra in action and Michael does some explanation of the songs that was done in the CD!! Really really excellent!

Yes its totally worth to purchase it. :) Thanks Michael W Smith for this great Christmas album!

It’s A Wonderful Christmas features the winning singer-songwriter joining forces
with four amazing choirs, among them a 100-voice choir and also a 16-member
London boy’s choir directed by John Tobin, and a 67-piece orchestra at London’s
Abbey Road studios. Also featured is a duet with American Idol’s Mandisa. As the
strings soar and the bells ring, you can almost feel winter’s nip in the air and
smell the fragrance of pine trees as Smith’s music puts you in that holiday
mood.

It's a Wonderful Christmas CD Tracks

1. Christmas Angels

2. It's a Wonderful Christmas

3. The Promise

4. Song For the King

5. Christmas Day [Duet with Mandisa] (Soundtrack used for MWS Video - Operation Christmas Child)

6. A Highland Carol

7. Sing Noel, Sing Hallelujah

8. Son Of God

9. What Child Is This

10. Audrey's Gift

11. All Year Long

Review of Hillsong United's - In A Valley By The Sea

Hillsong United has at long last released their Live Version album for 2007! I trully enjoyed All of the Above, though it was Studio recorded. So it was with great anticipation when I got my hands on In A Valley By The Sea! (yeah a mouthful!)

I was rather disappointed that it was not a Full CD, it was just an EP*. There was only 7 songs recorded live and .. i was like .. why ler?

Was even more disappointed when i popped the CD into the player and cranked up the volume!!! As typical Hillsong United live recordings, there was lots of Electric Guitar, the beat was rather heavy and "grunchy" and the songs were always a little more heavy than the average Hillsong album! Was disappointed cos i didn't enjoy listening to any of the seven songs being played on the player! I was like .. huh? Is that it? How come nothing catchy wan?

That was almost a week ago. Today ... i decided to re-pop in the CD into the player again!! The song that jumped out at me was Break Free. If you heard the version from All of the Above .. you would have found it mild!! This time it really rocked! Yes yes.. the songs finally started to sink in .. and I started to enjoy the songs.

The other song that I now enjoy is Song 4 .. called Second Chance!! Try and get your hands on this EP CD and listen to them as they enter into WORSHIP with these songs! :)

The CD Tracks are : (Click on the Links to Download Lyrics)

1. You Deserve (Matt Crocker & James Dunlop) - 5:06 (Free Lyrics)
2. Love Enough (Braden Lang & Scott Ligertwood) - 2:57 - (Free Lyrics)
3. Perfect Love (Dylan Thomas) - 4:27 - (Free Lyrics)
4. Second Chance (Braden Lang & Scott Ligertwood) - 5:25 - (Free Lyrics)
5. You Reign (Matt Crocker) - 5:05 - (Free Lyrics)
6. To Know Your Name (Matt Crocker) - 3:15
7. Break Free (Joel Houston, Matt Crocker & Scott Ligertwood) - 3:41

Some additional info that you may now know

The CD was recorded live at summercamp hence it's nickname the "summercamp experiment". This is also the second of the three part global project of Hillsong United. It was officially released at Encounterfest 2007 in October

EP = Extended play (EP) is the name typically given to CDs which contain more music than a single, but are too short to qualify as albums. Usually, an EP has around 10–25 minutes of music, a single has up to 10 minutes and an album has 25–80 minutes.

Song : I Know Who I Am (Israel Houghton - A Deeper Level)

Woo Hoo!! What happens when two great worship leaders joins together? An awesome worship song! :) Check out I Know Who I am .. where Israel Houghton and Chris Tomlin sings it in A Deeper Live album.

What's fascinating about the song is that song reminds us who we are in Christ, how God found us and touched us and gave us all an identity! I love the way Israel's songs are written, totally awesome!

We found a demo video online where you can watch Israel Houghton plays the song on his guitar and listen to the song. Might as well sing along and claim the promise too! :)

What can i say? God was definitely GLORIFIED and PRAISED thru out the worship nite. God's presence was so real and so beautiful. Worthy Worship Nite was simply a nite where the church came together and worship and worship and worshipped even more!

If we took away the lights, the stage, the instruments, the mics .... I believe everyone would have just kept on worshipping. There was this amazing presence of God that was touching the 1,000+ worshippers in church. Managed to capture a short video when the church was singing in accapella the beautiful song ... Heart of Worship (below).

The presence of God blew me away ... many whom i spoke with said how wonderful the presence of God "IS" during the worship nite, and that we should have this more often!!!
I believe that the heart of man, is always seeking to WORSHIP, and a nite dedicated to Worship will always draw men into His House!

WORTHY Worship Nite Photos

[apologies .. only took a few photos last nite!]

More than a thousand came together to give woship to our God

He is WORTHY of all praise and worship

The Choir sang and worship in unison

The Choir started the first song ... COME Let us Sing ...

Worship Leaders led the church in worship

We had Ps Gwen Choo, Ps Raymond Pu, Andy Chong, Jon Koo and Yi-Ki bringing the church into the wonderful presence of God.

The church celebrated, dance and worshipped along

We students from Africa who sang and dance and honored God in their worship presentation

We had our Dance teams worshipping thru dances and banners

The church was enthusiastic in their worship. The presence of God was so great and everyone was just worshipping and enjoying being in HIS presence

Our pastor ... Pastor Vincent shared with us the 5Ws of Worship

QUOTE : "When the Church does not Worship, There's no Power!"

Ps Vincent encouraged the church to Worship God all the time and everywhere !

Ps Vincent encouraged the church to come forward to the altar area

and got the worship team to continue Worship!! There was just a SWEET

presence of God all over the church!

Ps Gwen our Worship Pastor leading the church in worship!

Watch this beautiful Video during the Worthy Worship Nite

This was in the middle of the nite, when Ps Gwen lead the church to sing in Acapella (without music) ... HEART OF WORSHIP

Remix : I Will Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving

Hahaha ... this is so funny! Its a remixed version of one of the old praise songs from the good ol' 1980s. If you use song books back in the '80s called Scripture in Chorus ... then you'll definitely know this song. If my memory fails me not ... it should be song no16!!

Watch the Insyderz remix I Will Enter His Gates (They called it HE HAS MADE ME GLAD) from their Skalleluia Album! :)

Watch the Video and Sing along with Insyderz

Verse
I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart
I will enter His courts with praise
I will say this is the day
That the Lord has made
I will rejoice for He has made me glad

Chorus
He has made me glad
He has made me glad
I will rejoice for
He has made me glad
(Repeat)

Finally Israel will sing the song You Are Not Forgotten (Last Track from A Deeper Level CD). Its different from Say So, its a slow paced song and sets a totally different mood!

Watch & Be Blest by the Video below. (6.18 mins)

Requested by Liv, Here's the Lyrcis for You Are Not Forgotten

Verse1
People walking by, very seldom they say hi, they don’t know how wonderful you are
If they only knew all the things you’ve been through, if only they could see your heart
I hear you crying for help, please don’t blame yourself;
You are not forgotten, you are not forgotten

Verse2
When it’s time to go to sleep and you try your best to keep yourself from falling apart.
There’s no need to fear, because I’m already here, and I’m the one who sees your heart
I hear you crying for help, please don’t blame yourself;
You are not forgotten, you are not forgotten

Bridge
You are not just a face in the crowd, you are not a forgotten child
Let me whisper it loud, I love you, oh, I love you

Verse3
You can hold your head up high, ’cause I’ll make everything alright,
I’m committed to you smiling again
And eventually you’ll see people’s similarities, everyone just needs a friend
And when they’re crying for help, you’ll be able to tell them, please tell them for Me

Tag
You are not forgotten, you are not forgotten
You are not forgotten, you are not forgotten

Outro
Just remember, you are not forgotten

Song : Say So (Israel Houghton - A Deeper Level)

To be salt and light in the world (in the world)
